Tornado siren installed in Greenfield

A new tornado siren was installed in Greenfield today near the corner of North and Seventh streets.

It is the only siren in the Greenfield area. The siren was purchased by the town after a grant from USDA was obtained to cover part of the cost.

The siren will be operational in a few days after DP&L finishes connecting the electric line. The siren will be controlled from the police department, with a backup controller at the Paint Creek firehouse. Other than regular testing, it will only be set off when there is an imminent threat of a tornado in the Greenfield area, during which residents should seek shelter.

The testing schedule will be determined and made public soon and the news media will be made aware prior to any testing.
