Snow hits south-central Ohio hard; ODOT crews working for winter

CHILLICOTHE – Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) are working this morning to clear the state highway system, but a powerful winter storm continues to pound the region.
ODOT crews from District 9's eight counties are treating and plowing roadways where routes throughout most of the area are snow covered. Following the storm's path from the southwest, there is a heavier accumulation of snow reported in Brown, Adams, Highland, Pike and Scioto counties, while there is a lighter accumulation in Ross, Jackson and Lawrence counties. All routes are likely to be slick, and pavement could be icy, particularly on bridges and overpasses.
As the storm continues to make its way through the area, crews will continue their efforts to battle the elements. However, motorists are reminded to exercise additional caution and heed the following: Speed & Distance – The faster you’re going, the longer it will take you to stop; excessive speed continues to be one of the leading factors for crashes in ice and snow. Brake – Brake early, brake slowly and brake correctly; never slam on your brakes. Vision – Be aware of what’s going on well ahead of you; actions by other drivers will alert you to problems more quickly.
It also important to note that visibility can be reduced significantly during inclement weather, and travel conditions can change from mile to mile and minute to minute.
