Snow and ice patrols continue on state highways; several schools closed

By

Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation - District 9 continue treating the state highway system this morning for snow and ice.

The wintry blast prompted a number of school closings and delays, with this morning's wind chill at 4 below zero. Hillsboro City Schools, Greenfield Exempted Village Schools, Bright Local Schools, North Adams Schools and Southern State Community College were among the area school closings.

With intermittent periods of light snow still moving through the northern part of District 9, routes are lightly snow covered in most of the area, with slightly more accumulation in Ross and Highland counties.

Currently, crews in Brown and Lawrence counties are reporting routes to be mostly clear and wet; areas where pavement is wet will be slick and may be icy in cold spots. In addition, periods of light snow are likely throughout the day, and wind gusts of up to 34 miles per hour are expected to continue.

Crews will continue patrolling and treating all routes in the district, applying salt and grit as needed. However, motorists are reminded of the need for additional caution and to allow additional travel time.

District 9 includes Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties.
