Senior Center enjoys 1950's night dinner and dance event

We had about 120 at the 1950's night dance and with a raffle and cake walks we brought in a total of $1,969 for the center. Fairfield Local Schools National Honor Society volunteered and served dinner and many of the students stayed for the event itself.
Event’s sponsors included Crestwood Ridge Skilled Nursing and Thompson Funeral Home. Many local businesses also donated pies and cakes for the cake walk and prizes for our door prizes.
Membership Drive
The Highland County Senior Citizens Center’s membership drive is under way. Anyone 21 years of age and older may join the center. We have many activities going on through the week and welcome people to stop by and see what we have to offer.
For example, on a typical Tuesday we have cornhole, live bands, billiards, games, lunch, Bunco and more. The center also offers line dancing (for beginners, too), several kinds of art classes, cards, Friday morning breakfast and more. Ages to join are as follows: 21 years to 49 years: $25 per year, 50 years to 89 years: $20 per year and 90+ is a lifetime membership free. All memberships expire on Dec. 31 each year.
On Tuesday, May 19, the center is having a membership party at 11 a.m. and everyone is invited! We will have live music, games and cake and ice cream.
The center is having a friendly competition for anyone, included non-members (open to the public) who can sell the most memberships. The prize is $200 cash and a day trip. A $200 cash prize for the membership drive was donated by The Laurels of Hillsboro.
Those interested in helping the senior center with the membership drive may call the center’s front desk at 393-4745 for details and to sign up. Anyone who wishes to participate in membership drive is encouraged to attend the party on May 19 for fun and fellowship.
The center is open Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. is Friday morning breakfast, a homemade breakfast that is also open to the public. “The Big Breakfast” is only $4 and includes 2 eggs or 2 pancakes, bacon or sausage with a hash brown and coffee included. The center also has an inexpensive lunch and salad bar Monday through Friday that is also open to the public.
If you are unable to participate through the week at the center but would still like to support the center, signing up for membership is a great way to do so. You will receive our quarterly newsletter that will keep you updated on events and happenings at the center. The senior center is a non-profit organization and is solely supported by its membership dues fundraising events and private donations and receives no government funding.
