Secretary of State Husted comments on SB 63

COLUMBUS – Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted released the following statement today in response to amendments made to Senate Bill 63, legislation the Secretary has sought for more than five years, in order to authorize the implementation of an online voter registration system in Ohio.
The bill is pending in the Ohio House Government Accountability and Oversight Committee.
The following may be attributed directly to Secretary Husted:
“While I’m disappointed we won’t be able to offer online registration to new voters in time for the presidential election, I do appreciate the work members of the House are doing to get the initiative passed this year.
“Online voter registration is more secure, more convenient and more cost effective than paper registration, which is why I remain a strong supporter and why 35 other states already allow it.
“Moving this legislation forward is good for voters, good for taxpayers and good policy for Ohio. My administration will be ready to switch it on as soon as lawmakers give us the authority to do so.”
