Secretary Husted announces September as ‘Agriculture Month’

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has announced the Ohio Business Profile program will feature “Ohio Agriculture” throughout the month of September.
Agriculture is one of the leading industries in Ohio. With over 14 million acres of farmland, there are over 74,000 operating farms in the Buckeye State.
“In Ohio, agriculture puts Ohioans to work while providing our communities with the food we need to live our lives,” Secretary Husted said.

• Morral Companies, LLC (Morral) started off as a family business serving the local farm community and now is one of the country’s largest formulators and manufacturers of liquid fertilizer. They take pride in their knowledge of the products they manufacture, package and distribute, as well as their ability to provide customers with the highest level of service.
• Pettisville Grain Co. (Pettisville) is one of the few privately-owned grain and feed elevators in the state. Being in business since 1903, Pettisville Grain Co. continues to grow; however, one of their main goals is to give back generously to local schools as well as various charitable organizations around the world.
• Shagbark Seed & Mill (Athens) is a company of 18 employees striving to provide Ohioans with fresh, organic and local foods. Shagbark’s starts with local bean and grain farmers and ends with delicious, ready to eat food for your family.
• Chesterhill Produce Auction (Chesterhill) believes Ohio farmers are the best in the world and serves those farms and their community by offering locally grown produce at wholesale prices.
• Kalmbach Feeds (Upper Sandusky) was founded in 1963, and even with 500 employees it continues to grow. Although the company has gone from a modest grind and mix feed mill to a high-tech operation, they strive to maintain the traditional core values they’ve had for over 50 years.
In January 2016, Secretary Husted announced that 2015 was Ohio’s sixth consecutive year of record business growth and Ohio set an all-time, one-month record in March 2016. Ohio has seen a 21.8 percent increase in the number of newly-registered businesses and a 24.4 percent drop in rejections from 2010 to 2015. This growth can largely be attributed to Secretary Husted’s efforts to provide better customer service to Ohio businesses by reducing the costs associated with registering a new business, ensuring faster processing time and launching online services at the Ohio Business Central.
In addition, Secretary Husted began a partnership with Google’s “Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map” program in 2015. Ohio businesses now have easy access to free tools through Google when they apply to start a business online with the Secretary of State’s office and Ohio is now the least costly state in the region to start and maintain a new business.
Launched in June 2011, Ohio Business Profile has helped raise awareness about companies registered and doing business in Ohio that are creating interesting products, offering outstanding service, contributing to their local communities and employing Ohioans in the process. Each month, a handful of diverse businesses linked together by a common theme are featured on the Secretary of State’s website, where Ohioans are encouraged to submit companies they feel are deserving of recognition in future months.
