State Rep. Erica Crawley’s new position has her moving a half-mile down High Street.

The Columbus lawmaker was selected by the Franklin County Democratic Party Central Committee to fill an open county commissioner seat. Crawley earned a narrow victory for the appointment over Elizabeth Brown, the president pro tempore of Columbus City Council.

Crawley is currently serving her second two-year term representing the Ohio House’s 26th District, which includes an eastern portion of Franklin County.

Crawley also serves as the top Democrat on the House Finance Committee. Her selection comes during the final stages of the state budget negotiations between House and Senate leaders.

It’s unclear when she will leave the legislature. The Columbus Dispatch reported Crawley is ready to take office at any point and would leave the budget negotiations to her colleagues if need be.
