Reception held for Dr. Jim Vanzant

After 21 years of service, Dr. James R. Vanzant has retired as the Highland County Health Commissioner.

The Highland County Health Department hosted an open house for Dr. Vanzant from Wednesday, Nov. 19 at the Health Department offices, 1487 North High St., Suite 400.

Dr. Vanzant is a McClain High School and Ohio State University graduate.

In addition to serving as health commissioner, he also was re-appointed by Ohio Gov. John Kasich to the Dangerous and Restricted Animals Advisory Board for a term ending Jan. 15, 2016.

Dr. Vanzant thanked the community and his co-workers during the afternoon reception.

Taking over for Dr. Vanzant is Jared Warner.

Warner worked for the health department from 2002 until 2006 as a sanitarian. He has a master’s degree in environmental science and is a registered sanitarian. For the past several years, he has operated a consulting business in the Cincinnati area, specializing in emergency planning work with public health agencies and hospitals in the region.
