Less than a month after being indicted by a Highland County grand jury, a Portsmouth man has been sentenced to prison for failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.

As previously reported, Jaydin M. Griffith, 21, was charged with that third-degree felony count, as well as one count of unlawful restraint, a third-degree misdemeanor, during the Sept. 1 session of the Highland County grand jury.

Griffith pleaded guilty to the felony charge Sept. 30, with the misdemeanor charge dismissed.

The indictment alleged that on or about July 25, Griffith “did operate a motor vehicle … so as willfully to elude or flee a police officer after receiving a visible or audible signal from a police officer to bring [Griffith’]s motor vehicle to a stop.”

After accepting Griffith’s guilty plea, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced him to 18 months in prison. Griffith had 67 days of jail time credit. Effective Sept. 30, Griffith’s driver’s license will also be suspended for three years, according to the judgment entry.
