Sen. Rob Portman has been named to the powerful new congressional committee charged with finding ways to reduce the U.S. budget deficit by at least $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
Portman, R-Terrace Park, was selected by Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, along with Senators Jon Kyl of Arizona and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania for the 12-member panel.
Portman represented Ohio's Second Congressional District in the House of Representatives from 1993 to 2005, and was the White House budget director and United States trade representative under President George W. Bush.
