Portman issues statement on President Obama's plan to import Guantanamo Bay terrorists into the US
On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio), a member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement on President Obama’s continued push to import terrorists from Guantanamo Bay into the United States:
“The plan submitted by President Obama today would endanger the lives of American service members and threaten our national security,” Portman said. “As we have seen time and time again, upon their release, these hardened terrorists too often return to the battlefield. That puts our men and women in uniform in jeopardy. And it’s why Congress has rejected this plan on a bipartisan basis year after year.

“The president’s plan is also incomplete. It lacks a proposed location for a new detention facility and fails to address the risk associated with bringing these terrorists to our homeland.
“The president’s own policies paved the way for the rise of ISIS, and he has offered no comprehensive plan to destroy and defeat this terrorist threat. I will continue to focus on ensuring we take every step to strengthen America’s national security, while also protecting our men and women serving abroad.
“I urge the President to reconsider his dangerous plan to import these terrorists into our homeland.”
