WASHINGTON, D.C. – Good news for the projects in Piketon is included in federal funding legislation just released in Congress.

The federal appropriations bill, funding legislation for the remainder of fiscal year 2016, includes appropriated funding for the decontamination and decommissioning cleanup and American Centrifuge Project, both located in Piketon, Ohio.

Congressman Brad Wenstrup, who represents Pike County in the U.S. House of Representatives, has been leading the Ohio delegation in fighting to secure continued funding for the projects.

“This funding is important to continue the important operations in Piketon, Ohio, and the Ohio delegation worked continuously to ensure it was sustained through 2016,” Wenstrup said.

“We must clean up the site for future economic development and continue the only American owned uranium enrichment project in the nation.

"The support and advocacy from our Southern Ohio communities and leaders has been critical in highlighting the crucial nature of continued funding.”

The legislation is expected to pass Congress over the next few days and be signed into law by President Obama.

With Congress signaling its continued commitment to the projects in Piketon and providing the necessary funding, Wenstrup says he hopes the Obama administration and Department of Energy will follow this lead and dedicate the needed resources to continue operations.
