Ohio Senate adopts Johnson resolution condemning China

The Ohio Senate adopted Senate Resolution 241, sponsored by State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott). The resolution condemns the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Chinese Community Party for conducting virtual acts of war against the world and the brutal oppression of its own people. 

"China is utilizing any strategy and tool they can to destabilize our country and the world. The nation's authoritarian government also continues to oppress its people in numerous ways. They must be held accountable for these actions," Johnson said. "Today, the Ohio Senate is sending a message to China that its countless attacks against Americans, democratic governments around the world, and its own people are evil and must end."

Senate Resolution 241 uncovers and condemns the many strategies the People's Republic of China allegedly utilizes, such as: 

• Industrial and military espionage, including more than 200 reported instances of Chinese espionage against the United States since 2000;

• Participation in, and incentivization of, the production of fentanyl and its smuggling into the United States, which contributes to our nation's drug crisis;

• Maritime aggression in the South China Sea to threaten its neighbors;

• The oppression of the people of Hong Kong after promising the region political autonomy; 

• The detainment of more than one million Uyghurs and other mostly Muslim minorities, of which an estimated 100,000 have been forced into labor and re-education camps.
