Ohio National Guard air defense artillery brigade headquarters to deploy

By
Ohio Adjutant General, Press Release

About 35 members of the Ohio Army National Guard’s Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 174th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, located in Columbus, are deploying to the National Capital Region in Washington, D.C., in support of Operation Noble Eagle.

The public is invited to attend a call to duty ceremony honoring the deploying Soldiers Saturday, Oct. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler Armory, 2825 West Dublin Granville Road, Columbus 43235.

While deployed, the unit will provide command and control of units and personnel operating aircraft, ground-based air defense weapons systems, radar and communications equipment to protect the National Capital Region (NCR).

Since 2003, National Guard units have operated the Joint Air Defense Operations Center on a rotating basis. The JADOC is the critical element of the command-and-control system that drives the NCR’s Integrated Air Defense System (IADS). The mission is responsible for defending Washington and surrounding areas from hostile aerial threats by combining air-to-air and ground-to-air missile defense assets.

It will be the unit’s seventh mobilization, all of which have been to the NCR in support of Operation Noble Eagle.
