Ohio lawmaker seeks increase in speed limit

An Ohio Republican lawmaker has introduced legislation to increase Ohio's speed limit from 65 mph to 70 mph on Interstate highways.
Rep. Ron Maag, who represents the 35th House District, which includes parts of Warren and Hamilton counties, said that Ohio's Interstate highways ought to be consistent with the Ohio Turnpike – in northern Ohio – which has increased its speed limit to 70 mph.
According to a report in The Cincinnati Enquirer, Maag said: "(In order to be) consistent, the other Interstates should be 70. Neighboring states – Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia – have 70. It's just important to be consistent."
"The Ohio Turnpike Commission voted 4-1 last April to increase the speed limit for all vehicles on the 241-mile turnpike, which crosses northern Ohio mostly as I-80. The lone no vote came from the Ohio Department of Transportation representative on the commission. The Ohio Trucking Association also opposed the increase," the Enquirer said.
Maag is currently serving his second term in the Ohio House of Representatives. Prior to being elected to the Legislature, Representative Maag was a salesman for Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and served as a board member for the Warren County Farm Bureau.[[In-content Ad]]
