Millstone Creek Farm honored at Highland Soil and Water Conservation District's Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the Highland SWCD was held on Oct. 15 at the Hi-TEC Center in Hillsboro. During the meeting, several awards were presented and the election of supervisors took place.
Tim and Sandy Shoemaker of Millstone Creek Farm took home top honors at this year's Annual Meeting by being named the 2015 Cooperator of the Year by the Highland SWCD supervisors and staff.
The Shoemakers were selected due to their devotion to agricultural and the determination to improve soil and water quality throughout their operation. They have installed and utilized various conservation practices over the years.
They are a well-respected couple in the agricultural industry and provide an outstanding example of how to incorporate conservation practices that will protect the natural resources of Highland County.
The election of supervisors for the Board of the Highland Soil & Water Conservation District was also held during the Annual Meeting. There were two candidates running this year for one position available for a three-year term beginning January 2016.
The candidates on the ballot were Larry Shannon and Steve Vance. When the election results were tallied, Larry Shannon was re-elected to serve another term. Other members of the Highland SWCD Board of Supervisors include Jeff Boike, Jim Carr, Kyle Mustard and Dan Chambers.
