MH neurologist Dr. Manhart focusing on diagnosis, management of patients with chronic migraine
WILMINGTON – Dr. Andrea Manhart, a neurologist with CMH Neurological Services, is now focusing on the diagnosis and management of patients living with chronic migraine as part of her regular practice.
According to Dr. Manhart, the simplified criteria and definition for chronic migraine are:
• 15 or more headache days a month;
• headaches lasting for four hours a day or more;
• at least half of the headache days associated with migraine; and
• occurring with or without medication overuse.
“Using these simplified criteria is the easiest way to identify chronic migraine patients,” Dr. Manhart says.
She is able to assist in diagnosing patients who might have chronic migraine; can help optimize patients’ current treatment plans; can prescribe therapies specific for chronic migraine; can evaluate patients for BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA) injection therapy; and can coordinate 12-week follow-up injection treatments with patients’ regular visits to their primary care physician.

“I have seen Botox injections for migraine show a reduction in the number of headache days per month in my patients as well as improving quality of life,” Dr. Manhart says. “And the Food and Drug Administration has approved BOTOX® injections as preventative therapy for reduction in headache days.”
Dr. Manhart joined the medical staff of CMH Regional Health System and the practice of long-time CMH neurologist Dr. Mangala Venkatesh August 12, 2013. She sees patients at CMH Neurological Services, Suite 207, of the CMH Professional Building, 630 W. Main St., Wilmington.
