Commemorating the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, Highland County veterans were honored Wednesday evening with a service at Hillsboro High School.
Organized by Hillsboro Mayor Dick Zink, the event featured patriotic music provided by the Hillsboro High School band.
Veterans in attendance were asked to stand, and then each one gave their names, branch of the military, and years they were in the service, with special tributes paid to World War II Veterans.
Guest speakers included Charlie Norman, southwest regional director for Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s Office, and Hillsboro resident Alex Butler, the grandson of Mayor Zink.
Butler said that the United States, and all the Americans enjoy today are because of what “the greatest generation” did. “And they sit here before us today,” Butler said.
Zink and Butler finished with a reading of all Highland County servicemen who have been killed in action since World War II.
At the conclusion of the service, Zink asked that all veterans remain for a group picture.[[In-content Ad]]
