LOCAL BMV top donor for Save Our Sight program

Children’s vision program recognizes BMV, Highland County 

The Hillsboro Bureau of Motor Vehicles is recognized by the Ohio Department of Health’s Save Our Sight (SOS) children’s vision

program as one of the top ten donators in Ohio. The Hillsboro Agency collected the second highest donations in the state for the SOS program.

Donations to the program are made when people apply for or renew license plates. 

• The Save Our Sight  program promotes vision health and safety for children throughout Ohio. SOS programs include: providing protective eye wear for children involved in sports and vocational training, preschool vision screener training, and educational activities.

Support and information for the families of children with amblyopia (lazy eye): The Amblyope tivities, and free patches plus support for children with lazy eye through the Ohio Amblyopia (lazy eye) Registry. Due to the generosity of citizens in Highland county, the following programs sponsored by Save Our Sight, are popular in this county and throughout the state:

• Protective eyewear for child sport leagues and vocational students: Thousands of eye protection helmet gear and goggles have been distributed to softball and baseball teams throughout Ohio, including the Leesburg Area Recreation Commission in Highland County. A program for prescription sport goggles for lower income children began last year. This program also distributes eye safety equipment to vocational schools. (lazy eye) Registry program offers free eye patches, education and case management for families of children affected by lazy eye.

• Training and equipment for preschool vision screeners: This program has resulted in the detection of numerous vision problems of preschool children. Early detection is vital for healthy vision.

• Eye health and safety programs and materials for classrooms: Popular programs are taught in the classroom, all grades and include vocational

schools. Children get answers to numerous vision related questions.
