Kasich announces appointment of M. Howard Petricoff to PUCO

On Thursday, Gov. John R. Kasich announced the appointment of M. Howard Petricoff of Columbus (Franklin Co.) to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). 

Petricoff will serve for a term beginning June 23, 2016 and ending April 10, 2020. This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Ohio Senate.

“With decades of experience in utility and energy law, Howard Petricoff is exceptionally well versed in how these issues impact economic growth and job creation. I look forward to the expertise he will bring to the commission,” Kasich said.

Petricoff recently retired after more than 30 years with the Columbus office of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP.  Earlier in his career, he served as an assistant Ohio attorney general from 1977 to 1982. He holds a bachelor’s degree from American University, a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University and a juris doctor from the University of Cincinnati College Of Law.

An adjunct professor of natural resources and energy law at the Capital University Law School, Petricoff is co-director of the school’s Midwest Energy Law & Policy Center. He served on the Ohio Oil and Gas Commission from 2005-2012, the last six years as chairman, and was chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s natural resources committee in 2005-2006.

Petricoff and his wife, Sue, live in Columbus. They have two adult children and three grandchildren.
