Two Ohio Republican lawmakers appear at odds over how to best deal with the nation's growing federal deficit.

The Washington Post reports that Congressman Jim Jordan, an Urbana Republican, and House Speaker John Boehner, a West Chester Republican, differ on projected cuts in the deficit reduction proposals.

Jordan announced at a news conference Tuesday that he opposed Boehner's plan, then predicted the GOP leader did not have sufficient votes to pass the plan.

“If you look at this, it’s about a $7 billion reduction in spending from what we’re currently at,” Jordan told the Post. “We advocated something much more than that.”

Boehner’s plan promised spending cuts in excess of $1 trillion over the next decade in exchange for raising the debt ceiling by a slightly smaller amount.
