Air Force Guard Airman 1st Class Jeremy R. Shaffer has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Shaffer, a former Highland County commissioner and mayor of Lynchburg, completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Shaffer is the son of Sandra L. and Roger L. Shaffer of Lynchburg; son-in-law of Jeff and Teresa Curry of Wilmington; brother of Dodi L. McAllister of Saint Cloud, Minn., Nicholas Shaffer of Wilmington, and Britta Hilterbrandt; husband of Stephanie S. Shaffer; and father of Ethan, Joshua and Marianna Shaffer.

He is a 2000 graduate of Lynchburg-Clay High School, Lynchburg, Ohio. He earned a bachelor's degree in 2004 from Wilmington College.
