Jenny Penn begins term on OHSAA Board of Directors

Jenny Penn, Athletic Administrator at Western High School in Latham, will begin her term on the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors Thursday, as the board meets in Columbus to begin the 2010-11 school year. It is her first term on the OHSAA Board of Directors.

The OHSAA is the governing body of the high school sports in Ohio. It is a voluntary, non-profit organization which governs over 830 high schools and 800 middle schools, which amounts to over 350,000 students. 

Penn is a 1973 graduate of Lynchburg-Clay High school. She attended Morehead State University, where she earned both her bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science degree in health, physical education and recreation. 

Her 33-year teaching career has been with the Western Local School District in Latham. While at Western, she founded Heart of Western, a drug-free organization of high school students who mentor elementary school student. Penn also is the lead mentor in the Resident Educator Program as well as the Student Council Adviser. 

For the past 25 years, Penn has held the position of athletic administrator at Western, where she has also coached varsity volleyball, basketball and track & field. She served on the OHSAA’s Commissioner’s Liaison Committee for girls sports under former OHSAA Commissioner the late Richard Armstrong. Penn has also served on the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Administrative Board. Currently, she represents Western as a committee member on the Southern Ohio Conference and is a member of the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (OIAAA) and the Southeast OIAAA. In 2007, Penn was elected as the female representative for the Southeast District Athletic Board. 

  Penn resides in Hillsboro with Tim, her husband of 29 years. She has two daughters, Tara Rower and Ashley Penn, and a grandson, Kash.
