Investigators seek public help in Greene County arson

By
Ohio Fire Marshal's Office, Press Release

Investigators with the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal have determined that a fire that occurred at a business in Greene County last month was intentionally set. They are now seeking tips from the public to identify those responsible.

At 5:25 a.m. Thursday, July 31, the Fairborn police and fire departments were dispatched to a structure fire located at 137 & 139 N. Broad St. in Fairborn. Both units were vacant at the time, and no injuries were reported.

After locating multiple suspected points of origin for the fire, local officials requested assistance from the Division’s Fire and Explosion Investigations Bureau (FEIB). FEIB investigators recovered numerous pieces of evidence from the scene and are now investigating this fire as an arson.

The Division is requesting the public’s help in identifying the individual or individuals who may have been involved. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by the Blue Ribbon Arson Committee for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information is urged to contact the State Fire Marshal’s tip line at 800-589-2728.

The FEIB is working with Fairborn Police Department detectives and Fairborn Fire Department investigators on this investigation.
