Hillsboro woman gets community control in meth trafficking case

A Hillsboro woman was sentenced to community control recently after pleading guilty to a meth trafficking charge.

As previously reported, Galatea Martin, 28, of Hillsboro was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in April and charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine and two counts of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, all third-degree felonies, as a result of a Highland County Task Force investigation. She was one of seven individuals arrested during a roundup the following day.

Martin pleaded guilty June 9 to one count of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, with the remaining three charges dismissed, according to court records.

For that charge, Martin was accused of  “knowingly selling or offering to sell” meth “in an amount equal to or exceeding bulk amount but less than five times bulk amount” on or about Dec. 19.

During a sentencing hearing July 16, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Martin to three years of community control and ordered her to successfully complete substance use disorder and/or mental health treatment as recommended. She was additionally ordered to pay $130 in restitution to the Highland County Task Force.
