On Saturday, Oct. 23 at 10:42 a.m., the Hillsboro Police Department responded to a two-vehicle property damage crash on Harry Sauner Road east of North West Street. Upon investigation, it was determined that a 2004 Ford pickup truck, operated by Caleb Davis, 19, of Leesburg, was attempting to slow down. That vehicle was struck from behind by a 2007 Chrysler driven by Ruth Schultze, 62, of Manchester. Schultze was transported to the Highland District Hospital by the Hillsboro Life Squad. There was functional damage to the Davis vehicle and disabling damage to the Schultze vehicle. Schultze was cited for failing to maintain an assured clear distance ahead (ACDA).

On Saturday, Oct. 23 at 4:17 p.m., the Hillsboro Wal-Mart store, located at 540 Harry Sauner Road, reported that they had apprehended a shoplifter. Upon investigation, it was determined that Patricia L. Jones, 39, of Hillsboro, had removed merchandise from the store without paying for it. She was subsequently arrested for one count of theft (a misdemeanor of the first degree).
