On Sunday, Dec. 4 at 11:04 p.m., a local restaurant in the 900 block of North High Street reported receiving a counterfeit $20 bill from a customer at the drive-through window. The incident remains under investigation.
On Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 8:30 a.m., the Hillsboro Police Department responded to a two-car crash on Willettsville Pike near Maple Run Road. Upon investigation, it was determined that a 2008 Ford operated by Dorothy H. Scott, 65, of New Vienna was westbound and stopped for a school bus. A 2001 Ford Taurus operated by Michael K. Theener, 54, of Hillsboro was also westbound and attempted to stop but slid on wet pavement, striking the rear of the Scott vehicle. There was non-functional damage sustained by both vehicles. No injuries were reported. Theener was cited for failing to maintain an assured clear distance ahead (ACDA).
At 9 a.m., the South Central Power Company, located at 110 Danville Pike in Hillsboro, reported the theft of a large quantity of copper wire after someone cut through a fence to gain entry sometime the previous night. Upon investigation of this incident, it was found that a fence surrounding the Oak Street Water Tower owned by the City of Hillsboro had also been damaged in making entry to the South Central property. At 4:15 p.m., the Hillsboro Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on North High Street at Harry Sauner Road. Upon investigation, it was determined that a 2007 Chevrolet operated by Mary M. Howsman, 84, of Leesburg had been southbound on North High Street and had stopped for a traffic light. A 1998 Ford operated by Christopher Z. Caton of Hillsboro was also southbound, and the driver thought the Howsman vehicle was going to continue through the intersection on a yellow light, but didn't do so. The Caton vehicle struck the rear of the Howsman vehicle, causing nonfunctional damage to both vehicles. No injuries were reported.
