Hillsboro man sentenced to community control on meth trafficking charges
A Hillsboro man indicted in connection with a Highland County Task Force drug investigation this year was sentenced recently to community control.
John W. Campbell IV, 40, was indicted in May on eight counts, including four counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine and four counts of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, all third-degree felonies.
Campbell pleaded guilty to two of the trafficking counts in June, according to court records. According to the indictment, for those two charges, it was alleged that on or about Dec. 17 and Dec. 18, 2023, Campbell “did knowingly sell or offer to sell” meth “in an amount equal to or exceeding bulk amount but less than five times bulk amount.”
During a hearing July 10, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Campbell to three years of community control and ordered Campbell to successfully complete residential substance use disorder treatment and recommended aftercare. Campbell was also ordered to pay $800 in restitution to the Highland County Task Force.
As previously reported, local law enforcement executed search warrants and made multiple arrests in Hillsboro, Greenfield and Rocky Fork Lake areas May 9, after a Highland County grand jury handed down 15 indictments in connection with Highland County Task Force investigations.
The charges were the result of ongoing work of the Highland County Task Force and local county law enforcement partners to stop drug trafficking in the area. Highland County Task Force, Highland County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsboro Police Department and Greenfield Police Department officers participated in the May 9 arrest roundup.
