Hilliard woman sentenced to prison in connection with fatal 2021 crash
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Sheryl Munson recently sentenced Shannon Gaines, 50, of Hilliard, to at least 12 years in prison after Gaines pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of aggravated vehicular assault.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Donald Miller and Michael Shaw prosecuted the case for the Franklin County prosecutor’s office.
On Dec. 2, 2021, while driving on Roberts Road between Walcutt Road and International Street, Gaines allegedly drove left of center into an incoming vehicle.
One of the people in the car died of blunt force trauma. Two others in the car were treated for fractures.
Investigators determined Gaines had a .156 blood alcohol content at the time of the crash.
A surviving victim, the widower of the deceased victim and four other family members and friends spoke in court. Judge Munson sentenced Gaines to 12 to 15 years in prison, all mandatory time. Gaines was also given a lifetime driver’s license suspension.
