Highland County Sheriff's Report
Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Aug. 10-16, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 362 911 calls, answered 171 requests for service, dispatched 131 fire and EMS runs, took 29 offense reports and investigated five traffic crashes.
At 9:36 p.m. on Aug. 11, a Webertown Road resident returned home to find his house had been burglarized. A deputy was dispatched to the scene to investigate. Several items were reported stolen, and additional items were removed from the residence but not taken. Anyone with information about this or any other crime is urged to call the Highland County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (937) 840-6243. This incident remains under investigation.

Highland County deputies assisted the Greenfield Police Department late Wednesday, Aug. 12 by apprehending a male who pulled a firearm on several citizens outside a Greenfield area business. The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a white pickup truck driving westbound on state Route 28. HCSO deputies, GPD officers and a Leesburg Police Department patrolman all responded to the area to attempt to locate the suspect. The vehicle was first spotted by Leesburg Police on state Route 28 near Ringer Lane and was soon stopped by a deputy in the village of Leesburg. The male was taken into custody without incident. A loaded firearm was recovered from the vehicle. The suspect was transported to Highland District Hospital for mental evaluation. Charges have been filed by both the Highland County Sheriff’s Office and Greenfield Police Department.
A 911 call was received at 8:20 p.m. on Aug. 15 from a resident on state Route 134 in Salem Township. The caller’s mother and stepfather were involved in a physical altercation, and law enforcement was necessary. Deputies responded to the scene and arrested James J. Begley of Lynchburg for one count of domestic violence.
