Highland County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Aug. 3-9, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 409 911 calls, answered 154 requests for service, dispatched 126 fire and EMS runs, took 27 offense reports and investigated five traffic crashes.

On Aug. 7 at 6 p.m., a resident of the 13000 block of state Route 124 called the sheriff’s office to report a black pickup truck parked in his driveway with an intoxicated male passed out behind the wheel. The deputy dispatched to investigate located the vehicle traveling eastbound on state Route 124. The suspect pulled into another private driveway, where the deputy performed a traffic stop. As the deputy attempted to approach the vehicle, the suspect began to back out of the driveway and struck the front of the cruiser. The driver was arrested and charged with OVI, improper backing and several other moving violations.

On Aug. 8 at 8:42 a.m., a citizen came to the Highland County Justice Center to report he had items stolen from his camper while parked at a campground on state Route 753 in Paint Township. A deputy was dispatched to meet the complainant on scene to investigate the theft and take an offense report, but the complainant failed to show up. No report was taken.

Deputies were dispatched to an Aberdeen Way residence on Aug. 8 at 8:38 p.m. after several broken 911 calls reported a possible domestic disturbance between a male and an intoxicated female. Callers also reported that several children might be present in the home. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with all parties involved. It was determined that the argument was of a verbal nature, and no assault had occurred. No charges were filed.

An alarm activation was received from a business in the 4000 block of US 62 at 12:55 a.m. on Aug. 9. Deputies responded and found a garage door unsecured. The rest of the buildings on the premises were checked and found to be secure.
