Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Nov. 28 to Dec. 4, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 274 911 calls, answered 185 requests for service, dispatched 131 fire and EMS runs, took 36 offense reports and investigated two traffic crashes.
On Dec. 1 at 2:27 a.m.. a motorist called the Sheriff’s Office to report an abandoned vehicle parked along State Route 73 south of Berrysville with the driver’s door open and the motor still running. A deputy responded to the scene and located the driver laying in a thicket a short distance from the vehicle. Paint Creek Fire and EMS transported the driver to Highland District Hospital to receive treatment for an undetermined ailment.

The Wilmington Police Department called the Highland County Sheriff’s Office at 12:51 a.m. on Dec. 2 to request assistance in a high-speed vehicle pursuit that was approaching Highland County. HCSO deputies and an officer from Leesburg PD joined units from the Wilmington Police Department, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Sabina Police Department and Ohio Highway Patrol in the pursuit of a Nissan vehicle driven by an unknown female from the city of Wilmington to state Route 729 and Point Isabel Road, where the vehicle then turned south and continued onto Larrick Road. A Highland County deputy successfully deployed stop sticks as the vehicle entered the Village of Highland near Schoolhouse Road, deflating three of the vehicle’s tires. The pursuit terminated when the suspect entered the Highland Cemetery and became stuck. Jamie Mountjoy, 32, and George McKinney, 58, both of Wilmington, were taken into custody and turned over to the Wilmington Police Department.
A deputy was dispatched to the 2000 block of Fender Road at 1:18 p.m. on Dec. 4 when a homeowner called the Sheriff’s Office to report a theft. Upon returning home from church, the complainant noticed someone had stolen a Honda Pioneer utility vehicle, a Yamaha dirt bike and a Husqvarna chain saw from his barn. The deputy took an offense report and is currently investigating the incident.
