Highland County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of July 27 - Aug. 2, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 383 911 calls, answered 170 requests for service, dispatched 151 fire and EMS runs, took 57 offense reports and investigated three traffic crashes.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call from a Mowrystown business at 4 p.m. on July 27 after a customer’s car was struck and damaged in the parking lot. The suspect left the scene after the accident without stopping. A deputy responded to the location for a report and later located the suspect, who was not aware he had damaged the other vehicle. No charges were filed.

A deputy was dispatched to a call of an unruly juvenile on Cathy Court at 12:05 a.m. on July 29. After the deputy arrived on scene, it was discovered that an assault had occurred, and the juvenile was arrested for one count of domestic violence.

On July 30 at 4:04 p.m., a resident of Browning Road called the Sheriff’s Office to report her home had been broken into and items had been taken. A deputy responded to the scene to collect evidence and take an offense report. This incident remains under investigation.

A 911 call was received at 1:46 p.m. on Aug. 2 from a residence on Brad Road, where two brothers were allegedly in a fight. A deputy responded to the scene and arrested William E. Sweazy for one count of domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor; and Robert R. Sweazy for disorderly conduct and domestic violence, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree. Both are set to be arraigned Aug. 3 in Hillsboro Municipal Court.
