Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Sept. 26 to Oct. 2, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 275 911 calls, answered 159 requests for service, dispatched 102 fire and EMS runs, took 24 offense reports and investigated seven traffic crashes.
At 6:34 a.m. on Sept. 27, a Beech Trail resident called the sheriff’s office to report two males outside a neighbor’s house yelling and fighting. Deputies arrived and located the suspects still involved in a verbal disagreement. Neither party showed any evidence of physical harm, nor did they wish to pursue any charges. They agreed to calm down and finish their discussion inside their residence.
On Sept. 28 at 5:10 p.m., a citizen called the sheriff’s office to request a welfare check on a female family member who may have been injured in an assault somewhere in the Rocky Fork Lake area. Using information provided by friends and family, deputies began checking several different locations for the alleged victim. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the search by checking several houses in their jurisdiction. The female was eventually located, unharmed, by deputies at a Fascination Way residence.
A deputy is currently investigating an incident from 11:17 p.m. on Sept. 30 in which a bullet smashed through a glass door at a residence on State Route 28 in Fairfield Township. The occupants of the residence were watching television when a loud bang and glass shattering sent them ducking for cover. The scene was photographed, and evidence was collected. Several witnesses also heard the shot fired and believe it may have come from a vehicle with a loud exhaust. Anyone with information about this or any other crime is urged to call the sheriff’s office at (937) 393-1421 or the Crime Tip Line at (937) 840-6243.
At 12:25 a.m. on Oct. 1, a female on state Route 286 called 911 to report a domestic dispute resulting in a physical altercation. A deputy was dispatched to the scene, but the suspect had already fled. An offense report was taken, and warrants have been filed for the assailant.
