Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of July 18-24, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 348 911 calls, answered 166 requests for service, dispatched 123 fire and EMS runs, took 32 offense reports and investigated two traffic crashes.
On July 18 at 12:46 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to a residence in the 10000 block of North Shore Drive to investigate a burglary complaint. The property owner called the sheriff’s office to report the crime when he was notified of a broken window by a repairman working at the residence. An offense report was taken.
Deputies responded to a 911 call from a resident on Pea Ridge Road at 1:24 a.m. on July 19. The caller witnessed a male suspect, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, breaking into his vehicle. The suspect left the area on foot before law enforcement arrived. Nothing was taken during the break-in, but this incident remains under investigation.

A Clay Township resident came to the Sheriff’s Office at 10:15 a.m. on July 22 to report a theft and forgery. The complainant had evidence that someone had stolen a check from him and forged his signature. A deputy took an offense report and is currently investigating the incident.
Deputies were dispatched to an active fight call at a business in Lynchburg at 1:50 a.m. on July 24. The caller reported an altercation between two males started inside the business and continued into the street. When a deputy arrived, the altercation had ended, and one of the parties had already left the scene. No report was taken, and no charges were filed.
