Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of July 11-17, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 336 911 calls, answered 162 requests for service, dispatched 129 fire and EMS runs, took 35 offense reports and investigated two traffic crashes.
On July 11 at 3:22 a.m., a motorist traveling through Lynchburg witnessed three young juveniles acting suspiciously near the intersection of Main and Pearl streets. The citizen reported the activity to the Sheriff’s Office, and a deputy was dispatched to patrol the area. Nothing out of the ordinary was found, and no suspicious persons were located.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call on July 12 at 10:31 a.m. from a local utility company reporting the theft of electricity at a residence on state Route 73 in Union Township. A deputy met a utility worker on the scene, where a report was taken for possible prosecution.

On July 16 at 2:04 a.m., a resident of the 8000 block of state Route 124 awoke to find an unknown male subject inside his home. The suspect was a white male wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, approximately 6’2”. He fled on foot while the homeowner called the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies rushed to the scene, but the suspect was not located. Evidence was collected, and a report was taken. The incident remains under investigation.
A Candy Cane Lane resident came to the Highland County Justice Center at 11:27 p.m. on July 16 to file a domestic violence report. The victim was assaulted by his spouse following an argument. A deputy spoke to the complainant, and an offense report was taken. Charges are likely to follow pending further investigation.
Deputies were dispatched to the Rocky Fork Lake area on July 17 at 12:55 a.m. following a 911 hangup call where a male and female could be heard arguing and fighting. The cellular telephone used to place the call was tracked to a residence on Hickory Trail. Deputies located the parties involved in the dispute, and the female was placed under arrest for domestic violence.
