Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of June 20-26, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 315 911 calls, answered 129 requests for service, dispatched 100 fire and EMS runs, took 36 offense reports and investigated three traffic crashes.
Deputies were dispatched to investigate a domestic disturbance in the 8000 block of US Route 50 on June 20 at 8:12 p.m. A female called the Sheriff’s Office to report a verbal argument between herself and her husband. Both parties were interviewed by law enforcement, but no charges were filed. Alcohol was determined to be a contributing factor in the incident.
A Grimsley Road resident called the Sheriff’s Office on June 24 at 11:13 p.m. to report seeing an unknown person with a flashlight prowling around her front yard. A deputy dispatched to investigate the complaint patrolled the area, including Grimsley and Bridges Roads. A subject with a flashlight was located near that location looking for a lost canine. No report was taken.

A motorist called the Sheriff’s Office on June 25 at 4:23 p.m. to report seeing a van and a car parked on Wilson Road with a male subject walking around the vehicles. The caller noticed that the side window had been broken out of the van. The owner of the van called the Sheriff’s Office upon returning to find the window broken and items missing. A deputy responded, and an offense report was taken.
On June 26 at 11:47 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to the 6000 block of state Route 124 to investigate a prowler complaint. A resident in the area witnessed a vehicle stop in the road. A person exited the vehicle and walked in the direction of a neighbor’s residence. The caller was concerned due to a recent attempted break-in at the same location. Homes and outbuildings were checked by a deputy, but no suspect was located.
