Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of May 2-8, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 270 911 calls, answered 131 requests tor service, dispatched 119 fire and EMS runs, took 35 offense reports and investigated three traffic crashes.
On May 2 at 11:12 p.m. a deputy was dispatched to the 9000 block of East Deadfall Road to investigate a prowler complaint. The homeowner called the sheriff’s office after he saw a male in a black shirt messing around the property. The deputy checked the residence and property, but nothing was located.

On May 6 at 9:32 a.m., the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District was dispatched to the Highland County Justice Center after corrections officers located a male inmate who had attempted suicide. The subject was quickly transported to Highland District Hospital and was later flown to Miami Valley Hospital. The male was successfully treated for a self-inflicted laceration and returned to the Justice Center the following day.
On May 6 at 1:36 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a report of an attempted burglary at a residence on Valerie Drive at Rocky Fork Lake. A deputy responded to the scene, where a report was taken and evidence collected.
A deputy is currently investigating the theft of a utility trailer from a business on Grand Street in Sinking Spring. The owner of the trailer called the sheriff’s office on May 8 after discovering the theft. Anyone with information about this or any other offense is encouraged to call the Highland County Sheriff’s Office at 937-393-1421 or the Crime Tip Hotline at 937-840-6243. Callers may remain anonymous.
Two people were arrested on May 8 after they were found trespassing on private property on Roush Road in Hamer Township. The property owner called the sheriff’s office at 7:35 p.m. upon finding the suspects on his property. A deputy was dispatched to the scene, where an offense report was taken and both subjects were charged with one count of trespassing.
