Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of April 4-10, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 263 911 calls, answered 153 requests for service, dispatched 120 fire and EMS runs, took 39 offense reports and investigated five traffic crashes.
On April 4 at 7:28 a.m., an employee of a business on Roush Road called the Sheriff’s Office to report their building was broken into sometime over the weekend, and items were stolen. A deputy responded to the scene, where an offense report was taken and an investigation was initiated.
On April 6 at 2:26 p.m., an attempted robbery was reported by a North Shore Drive business after a white male suspect, 5’11” to 6’0” tall and approximately 165-175 pounds, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, entered the premises and demanded money. The suspect grabbed an employee’s wrist while concealing what was believed to be some type of weapon inside his pocket. The employee pulled his arm away from the suspect and grabbed a large knife lying nearby. The suspect then fled the business on foot, heading east behind the building. Several deputies and the HCSO K-9 unit responded to the scene, where they successfully tracked the suspect to the parking lot of another business before losing the scent. On April 9 at 11:21 p.m., a resident of Faye Avenue in Lynchburg called to report a verbal domestic dispute that resulted in a female making suicidal threats with a knife. The female left the house on foot prior to the call and could not be located. A deputy was dispatched to investigate. The female was located at a family member’s residence and transported to Highland District Hospital.
Deputies were dispatched to an Oak Ridge Road residence at 6:38 p.m. on April 10 to investigate a domestic violence complaint. Several family members were found to have been in an argument, but no assault occurred and no charges were necessary. An incident report was taken.
