Highland County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of April 27-May 3, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 384 911 calls, answered 153 requests for service, dispatched 119 fire and EMS runs, took 30 offense reports and investigated one traffic crash.

A deputy on patrol at Rocky Fork Lake located a stolen vehicle early Monday morning, April 27. The vehicle was stolen from a West Second Street residence in Dayton and discovered abandoned at approximately 1:45 a.m. off of East Shore Drive. A wrecker towed the vehicle to the Highland County Justice Center, where it was later processed by investigators from the Dayton Police Department.

At 8:27 a.m. on April 28, a resident of Caleb Hill Road called the Sheriff’s Office to report her garage door had been kicked in. Evidence showed that the suspect did enter the premises, but it was not clear if anything had been taken. However, after further investigation, it was discovered that a family member who lost their keys had caused the damage, and no report was taken.

Deputies were dispatched to a Highland residence at 10:11 p.m. on April 29 after a call of a domestic disturbance. The caller alleged to have been assaulted and locked out of the home. When deputies arrived, neither party showed any physical signs of assault, nor did they wish to file a report. The male left for the evening, and no charges were filed.

At 9:01 a.m. on May 3, a theft was reported by a Wolfe Road resident after discovering items were taken from two different vehicles on the property. A deputy responded to the residence and took an offense report. The incident remains under investigation.

On Sunday, May 3 at 11:32 p.m., a deputy was sent to the 2000 block of state Route 134 to investigate a prowler complaint. The caller thought someone was outside their home and pounding on an exterior wall. The deputy patrolled the area and checked outside the residence. No suspect was located.
