Highland County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of April 6-12, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 529 911 calls, answered 167 requests for service, dispatched 171 fire and EMS runs, took 30 offense reports and investigated seven traffic crashes.

A deputy was dispatched to the 11000 block of Spruance Road at 8:33 p.m. on April 6 to investigate a burglary. The crime was discovered by the homeowner, who found the front door kicked in and several items from inside the home, including a television, missing. A report was taken, and the crime is still under investigation.

At 1:35 a.m. on April 7, a Lynchburg resident came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft. The victim’s bank card had been compromised by a female acquaintance, and money was missing. A deputy took an offense report, and the incident remains under investigation.

On Thursday at 12:10 a.m., a call was received from the 11000 block of Highland Hills Drive requesting a life squad for a female with a leg injury. Sheriff’s office personnel and Paint Creek EMS responded to the scene, and the female was transported to the emergency room. Investigation of the circumstances of her injury led to the arrest of John W. Campbell IV, 31, of Hillsboro. He was charged with one count of domestic violence and transported to the Highland County Justice Center.

The Lynchburg Area Joint Fire and Ambulance District responded with sheriff’s deputies to a residence on High Street in Lynchburg following the report of a male not breathing following a heroin overdose. EMS units arrived on scene early Saturday morning and soon revived the patient, who was then transported to Highland District Hospital. Charges of possession of drug abuse instruments were filed against Timothy Lewis, 22, of Lynchburg.

On Sunday at 4:58 a.m., a resident of Kay Road in Sardinia called the Sheriff’s Office to report his vehicle had been taken without permission. The owner became aware his vehicle was missing when the Hillsboro Police Department contacted him after recovering the vehicle at a Hillsboro apartment complex. A deputy met with the owner to complete an offense report, and charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle were filed against Damion Lillie of Sardinia. Lillie was also charged with resisting arrest and persistent disorderly conduct.
