Highland County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Feb. 29 to March 6, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 259 911 calls, answered 188 requests for service, dispatched 96 fire and EMS runs, took 27 offense reports and investigated five traffic crashes.

On Feb. 29 at 9:26 p.m., several Lynchburg residents called 911 to report hearing gunshots on South Broadway Street. Deputies were dispatched to the scene, where a dispute between two male subjects led to the gunfire. When law enforcement arrived, only one of the suspects was still on site. The other male was located a few minutes later at a residence on state Route 134. Robert A. Herbert, 30, of Lynchburg was arrested and charged with menacing. Nicholas A. Biscardi, 20, of Lynchburg was arrested and charged with improperly discharging a firearm.

At 4:45 p.m. on March 4, a citizen on Carr Road called the sheriff’s office to report discovering fraudulent charges on her debit card from a retail store in California. The victim had no idea how anyone was able to access her account as the card had been in her possession the whole time. A deputy spoke to her, and an offense report was taken. The incident remains under investigation.

A resident of Martin Lane called the sheriff’s office on March 5 to report damage done to several vehicles sometime overnight while parked at her residence. A deputy was dispatched to the scene to investigate and collect evidence. A report was taken, and the incident is still under investigation.

On March 5 at 8:59 p.m., a citizen on Roberts Road called the sheriff’s office to report finding suspicious activity on her bank statement. The victim’s debit card had apparently been compromised and used fraudulently to make purchases from a retail establishment in Texas. A deputy spoke to the complainant, and an offense report was taken. The incident is still under investigation.
