Highland County Sheriff's Report
Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Feb. 8-14, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 344 911 calls, answered 166 requests for service, dispatched 124 fire and EMS runs, took 24 offense reports and investigated eight traffic crashes.
On Feb. 9 at 10:35 a.m., a 911 call was transferred from Brown County to the Highland County Sheriff’s Office reporting a domestic violence situation. Deputies were dispatched to a Mowrystown residence, where they spoke with a female who had been assaulted. The male suspect had already fled the scene by the time deputies arrived. However, he was located a short time later and taken into custody following a traffic stop along state Route 321. Domestic violence charges were filed on Levi D. Becknell and Nikkiah Turkelson. Both were transported to the Highland County Justice Center.

A citizen came to the Justice Center on Feb. 10 at 5:20 p.m. to speak with a deputy about a family member stealing and selling property from her home. An incident report was taken, and the incident remains under investigation.
A Browning Road resident called the Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 11 at 10:59 p.m. to report an unknown suspect had just tried to gain entry to her residence by kicking in the front door. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction. Deputies are still investigating this incident.
A Petersburg Road resident called the Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 14 at 2:45 p.m. after several suspects in a silver SUV tried to break into an outbuilding. The property owner was able to chase the suspects away. They fled the scene eastbound.
