Highland County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Donald E. Barrera reports for the week of Jan. 25-31, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 333 911 calls, answered 151 requests for service, dispatched 101 fire and EMS runs, took 26 offense reports and investigated three traffic crashes.

On Jan. 25 at 8:45 a.m., a Paint Township resident called the Sheriff’s Office to report identity theft. The victim came to the Highland County Justice Center, filled out a statement and turned over evidence to a deputy, who took an offense report and began an investigation.

On Jan. 26 at 2:12 a.m., while on routine patrol in Paint Township, a deputy discovered an open door at a business in the 7000 block of state Route 753. The business was checked, but nothing appeared to be out of order, and the door was re-secured.

On Jan. 28 at 8:18 p.m., a citizen in the Rocky Fork Lake area called to report suspicious sounds coming from a neighbor’s property. The caller was concerned a burglary was taking place. A deputy was dispatched and checked around the residence. There were no signs of attempted forced entry, and the home was found to be secure.

A resident of the 8900 block of state Route 753 called the Sheriff’s Office at 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 29 to report a theft of money and a checkbook from a vehicle. A deputy responded and took a report. The incident remains under investigation.

A deputy responded to a Pied Piper Parkway residence on Jan. 30 at 5:03 p.m. when the homeowner called the Sheriff’s Office to report her home had been burglarized. A report was taken at the scene, and evidence was collected. The incident remains under investigation.
