Highland County Sheriff's Report

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Jan. 11-17, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 344 911 calls, answered 161 requests for service, dispatched 114 fire and EMS runs, took 24 offense reports and investigated nine traffic crashes.

On Jan. 13 at 12:30 a.m., a citizen on Holiday Way at Rocky Fork Lake called the Sheriff’s Office to report seeing a prowler outside a neighbor’s house. While a deputy was en route to the location, a second call reporting a suspicious vehicle driving slowly past the same residence was received. The deputy arrived and located the person and vehicle in question. It turned out to be a relative of the homeowner.

A deputy was dispatched to the 6000 block of McCoppin Mill Road on Jan. 15 at 10:14 a.m. to investigate a report a male allegedly punching another person in the face. The deputy arrived on scene a few minutes later and took the suspect into custody. Brandon D. Bowen, 26, was transported to the Highland County Justice Center and charged with one count of assault.

A 911 hang-up call was received at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 from a residence on Fascination Way. Before the call disconnected, the dispatcher could hear sounds of yelling and screaming on the line, so a deputy was sent to investigate. An argument between a mother and daughter was the source of the call. However, no assault occurred, and no report was necessary.

The Sheriff’s Office received an alarm drop from a residence in the 7000 block of state Route 73 at 4:16 p.m. on Jan. 17. A deputy responded to the location and spoke with the property owner, who advised all was secure and it was a false alarm.
