Highland County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Jan. 4-10, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 391 911 calls, answered 194 requests for service, dispatched 155 fire and EMS runs, took 40 offense reports and investigated nine traffic crashes.

At midnight on Jan. 5, the Sheriff’s Office received an alarm activation call for a residence in the 9000 block of state Route 753. Deputies were dispatched to the scene to investigate. The property owner also called the Sheriff’s Office to report interior cameras recorded two unknown male suspects inside the residence, but it appeared they left empty-handed. The residence was checked, and evidence of forced entry was located. An offense report was taken, and the incident remains under investigation.

On Jan. 7 at 9:38 a.m., a citizen came to the Highland County Justice Center to report several vehicles and an outbuilding in the 12000 block of US Route 50 were entered sometime overnight, and miscellaneous items were taken. A deputy spoke with the complainant, and an offense report was completed. An investigation is still pending.

The Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 4:39 p.m. on Jan. 9 from a Dunham Road residence where a domestic disturbance was taking place. Deputies were dispatched to the scene, where a male subject was arrested for one count of disorderly conduct. Craig M. Allen, 36, of Hillsboro, was taken into custody and transported to the Highland County Justice Center.

On Jan. 10 at 5:27 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible domestic violence incident occurring inside a vehicle headed toward Hillsboro on state Route 73 from the area of Runk Lane. Deputies located the vehicle in question near Crosen Road, where it had crashed in a ditch. William G. Lias, 52, was arrested at the scene and charged with one count of domestic violence.
