Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Dec. 7-13, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 368 911 calls, answered 174 requests for service, dispatched 136 fire and EMS runs, took 33 offense reports and investigated five traffic crashes.

On Dec. 8 at 5 p.m., a Madison Township property owner came to the Sheriff’s Office to report the theft of a motor scooter from North 5th Street. A deputy took an offense report. The incident remains under investigation.

On Dec. 9 at 12:15 a.m., a New Market resident called the Sheriff’s Office to report seeing a suspicious vehicle parked behind an area business with an unknown male walking around near the vehicle. A deputy was dispatched to the scene to investigate. Contact was made with the male, who turned out to be waiting for a ride after his vehicle had broken down. The Sheriff’s Office urges any citizen witnessing any activity out of the ordinary to report it to local law enforcement.

On Dec. 9 at 2:45 p.m., a citizen came to the Highland County Justice Center to report a theft of tools and other items from her residence. The victim provided a statement to a deputy, who immediately began an investigation and ultimately recovered the items in question. Charges have been filed on the suspect for theft.

A New Market Township resident called the Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 12 at 1:01 p.m. after discovering several items stolen from his shop. A deputy was dispatched to the scene, where a report was taken. The incident remains under investigation.
