Highland County Sheriff's Report
Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Oct. 26 to Nov. 1, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 319 911 calls, answered 150 requests for service, dispatched 117 fire and EMS runs, took 29 offense reports and investigated two traffic crashes.
On Oct. 27 at 10:04 p.m., a citizen on Haggerty Road called the Sheriff’s Office to report a female was at his residence and had been assaulted by her husband. A deputy was dispatched to investigate and take a report. Charges of domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony, were filed against Brandon K. Doughman, 36, of Batavia. The suspect turned himself in to deputies early the next morning at the Highland County Justice Center.

A passing motorist called the Sheriff’s Office at 12:39 p.m. on Oct. 30 after witnessing what appeared to be a domestic violence altercation in the 4000 block of state Route 124. Deputies were dispatched to the scene, where they located a female with several outstanding warrants from the Hillsboro Police Department. Amanda F. Piatt was arrested and transported by a deputy to the Highland County Justice Center. No domestic violence charges were filed as a result of this incident.
On Oct. 31 at 12:39 a.m., a Mowrystown resident called to report an open door at a vacant residence on Maple Street. A deputy responded to the scene and cleared the residence. Everything was found to be in order, and the open door was secured. No report was taken.
The Brown County Communications Center called the Sheriff’s Office at 6:20 p.m. on Nov. 1 after they received a 911 call from a female on Duncanson Road in White Oak Township. The only information dispatchers could obtain from the caller before the phone went dead was the address and that she feared for her life. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office and an officer from Sardinia Police Department were immediately dispatched to investigate. Shortly after law enforcement arrived, a male was detained. Cody Leroy Sullivan, 21, of Winchester was later arrested and charged with one count of domestic violence and one count of unlawful restraint.
