Highland County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Sept. 21-27, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 381 911 calls, answered 164 requests for service, dispatched 147 fire and EMS runs, took 31 offense reports and investigated one traffic crash.

On Sept. 22 at 10:17 p.m., the sheriff’s office was contacted by a resident of Pirate’s Cove in reference to an unknown person trying to gain entry to their front door. Deputies were dispatched to the scene, but upon their arrival, no suspect could be located. The area was thoroughly patrolled, and the residence was found to be secure.

A deputy was dispatched to a North Shore Drive business at 1:41 a.m. on Sept. 25 to investigate an alarm activation. A key holder, who was also contacted by the alarm monitoring company, met the deputy on scene. The premises were checked, and all was found to be secure.

A Spickard Road resident called the sheriff’s office at 1:56 p.m. on Sept. 25 to report the theft of a golf cart and chainsaws from his property. A deputy responded to the scene to take an offense report and collect evidence. This incident remains under investigation.

A deputy is currently investigating the theft of an all-terrain vehicle from a residence on state Route 286 in Clay Township. The owner of the missing ATV called the sheriff’s office at 4:28 p.m. on Sept. 27 to report the theft. A 911 call received at 6:23 p.m. on Sept. 27 sent deputies to a Murray Road residence to investigate a domestic disturbance complaint. It was determined the dispute between a brother and sister was verbal in nature, and no assault had occurred. No charges were filed.
