Highland County Sheriff's Report
Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the Week of May 4-10, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 440 911 calls, answered 157 requests for service, dispatched 130 fire and EMS runs, took 32 offense reports and investigated three traffic crashes.
At 3:07 p.m. on May 4, a deputy was dispatched to the 13000 block of Collier Road to investigate a theft complaint. A local farmer called the sheriff’s office after discovering several parts had been stolen from a piece of equipment. An offense report was taken, and the incident remains under investigation.
Deputies responded to a possible fight call in Lynchburg on May 4 at approximately 10:22 p.m. The caller reported a large group of people congregated near a local business and what sounded to be a physical altercation. When deputies arrived on scene, they learned the suspects had already left but were able to get a description of the vehicle. That vehicle was found a short time later, and a male was arrested. Zachery W. Goodwin, 21, of Lynchburg was charged with OVI.
A 911 call placed at 1:24 a.m. on May 7 led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Hillsboro man for domestic violence. Deputies responded to a Wright Road residence after receiving a report of a male subject threatening family members. While they were en route to the scene, a second 911 call reported two males were involved in a physical altercation. Kelly R. Boone was taken into custody and transported to the Highland County Justice Center.

A residential burglar alarm was received at 8:04 a.m. on Saturday, May 9 from a security monitoring company. A deputy responded to the East Welcome Road residence and found an open door. The home was searched, and everything was found to be secure.
At 12:05 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, deputies were dispatched to a Keplinger Road address when a person there called to report a domestic disturbance. A female was outside allegedly attempting to break a window with a chair. Deputies arrived shortly after and spoke to both parties involved. No one had been assaulted, and neither wanted to file a report. The female in question left for the evening with no charges being filed.
